Configuring Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Evren Workspace
This article guides us on how to configure Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Evren Workspace (Hyper- V) on a Windows 10/11 system. To ensure a smooth experience while using Evren Workspaces on Windows 10 or 11, some customers using Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 may encounter network connectivity issues due to conflicts between SEP's Network Threat Protection feature and Hyper-V functionality. This guide outlines steps to mitigate these issues.
Why is this necessary?
Evren Workspaces leverages Hyper-V to create secure virtual environments. SEP's Network Threat Protection feature, especially its firewall, can interfere with Hyper-V's network configuration, leading to:
- Disruption of the host’s network connection.
- Inability for the Evren virtual environment to communicate with external networks.
Recommended Actions
Option 1: Temporarily Disable SEP Network Threat Protection (recommended for trial and evaluation of the product)
- Open Symantec Endpoint Protection on your system.
- Navigate to the Change Settings tab.
- Locate Network Threat Protection and select Configure Settings.
- Toggle the feature to Disabled temporarily.
- Restart your system to apply the changes.
⚠️ Note: Ensure your system is in a secure network environment while this feature is disabled.
Option 2: Allow All Incoming Connections on SEP Firewall
To prevent conflicts while keeping SEP active:
- Open Symantec Endpoint Protection.
- Go to Change Settings > Network Threat Protection > Configure Firewall Rules.
- Add a new rule:
- Set Action to Allow.
- Set Traffic Direction to Incoming.
- Specify the affected Hyper-V network adapters (you can identify these via the Windows Network Connections settings).
- Save the rule and restart your system.
